Clinton State Park

Clinton State Park

Dedicated in 1975, 1500-acre Clinton State Park is located on the northeast shore of Clinton Reservoir. Four miles from the City of Lawrence, the park serves the neighboring community well. The park’s nearly 600,000 annual visitors travel from across the country, passing through or as their destination. In either case, compliments about the facilities and the natural beauty of the park are common. The balance between recreation areas and natural areas within the park is carefully managed. Wildflowers and prairie grasses divide the turf and then blend gracefully into the timberline. Native wildlife is abundant and easily viewed along park roadways. Whitetail deer, turkeys, waterfowl and songbirds add a rich texture to the sightseeing experience. As the surrounding area becomes more urbanized the importance of the park and the experiences it provides becomes ever more critical in meeting that “need to escape”. Four miles west of historic Lawrence Kansas in the Osage Questas woodlands lays Clinton State Park. The 1500-acre park is located on the northern shore Clinton Reservoir. Boat ramps and courtesy docks afford easy access to the reservoir, known for its clear water and good fishing. Anglers, boaters and campers alike enjoy Clinton Lake Marina. Offering boat slips, retail sales, equipment rental and a floating restaurant a visit to the marina is a must.Visitors to the park can enjoy viewing a variety of wildlife. Whitetail deer, turkey, waterfowl, and numerous species of songbirds abound in the carefully managed habitat areas. During the spring and fall bald eagles frequent the shoreline and nest in areas on the reservoir. In spring, the park blossoms with native wildflowers easily seen from a selfguided nature trail. Other trails throughout the park provide mountain biking, hiking, and even cross-country skiing.Activities such as picnicking, swimming, archery practice at the range or camping on one of the nearly 500 campsites in the park are available.
