Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is located in south central Kentucky. It is home to Cumberland Falls, known as the “Niagara of the South”. This magnificent waterfall is approximately 125 feet in width and plunges about 60 feet into a boulder-strewn gorge. On certain occasions, when the conditions are right, its mist creates a unique phenomenon known as a moonbow. It’s similar to a rainbow, but it occurs only at night and only during a full moon - and it’s actually a spectrum of color created by the moon’s reflection off of the mist (an arch of light will be visible at the base of the falls and will continue downstream). It’s well worth a visit to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park just to witness this magical moonbow, for it happens nowhere else in the Western Hemisphere.
