Overview

Home of Nebraska's only lighthouse and a federal waterfowl refuge, scenic Lake Minatare State Recreation Area covers 2,970 acres with a 2,158 acre lake, 12 miles northeast of Scottsbluff. Lake Minatare State Recreation area claims choice camping and boating facilities. The modern campground has asphalt pads with electrical hookups, modern restrooms and showers. In addition, the area has more than another 100 units on undesignated primitive sites around the lake. Other facilities include: picnic tables, shelters, drinking water, fire grates, a trailer sanitation station, and vault toilets. Minatare has an excellent sand beach, east of the dam.

Lake Minatare, with a surface area of 2,158 acres and about 12 miles of shoreline is a part of the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge. The lake is popular with anglers with it's abundance of fish including channel catfish, crappie, small mouth bass, white bass, walleye, wipers, and yellow perch. Walleye, channel catfish, and gizzard shad are stocked in the reservoir annually. Motorized boats are permitted on the lake. The area is open to the public from mid-January to the end of September.

    The lake is a great place for boating, both motorized and non-motorized.

    The campsite has all the modern amenities for RVs including electrical hookups, drinking water, and a sanitation station.

    The lake's 2,158 acres of surface area afford visitors plenty of space for all types of boating, water skiing, and other water sports. There is also a swimming beach.

  • Winter Sports

    Lake Minatare State Recreation Area is open for winter recreation.
