Planning Your Visit

Longfellow National Historic Site is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just a short walk from Harvard Square. Here you can learn about the famous American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his impact on the national identity of the United States, and about George Washington's stay in the house during the Siege of Boston in 1775-1776.

Tours of the Longfellow House are offered seasonally. The grounds and historic garden are accessible year-round and may be freely visited during daytime hours. Please check with the park fo details on operating hours, fees, directions to the park, and special programs and events.

Operating Hours & Seasons

Longfellow National Historic Site is open to the public with a tour schedule as follows:

From May 1 to June 3, tours will be offered on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:30 and 11:30 AM, and at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 PM.

From June 4 through September, tours will be offered Wednesdays through Sundays at 10:30 and 11:30 AM, and at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 PM.

Special group and student tours are available, staff permitting. Please call (617) 876-4491 for information.

The Longfellow NHS archives are open for researchers by appointment. Call (617) 491-1054.

The gardens and grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk every day.

Entrance Fees
Adults (16 and older): $3
Children (15 and under): Free

Entrance to the Longfellow NHS Visitor Center and Bookstore and gardens and grounds is FREE. Admission to the Longfellow House is by guided tour only and is $3.00 per adult age 16 and older. Admission is free for ages 15 and under. National Park Pass holders are admitted FREE. Individuals in group tours are subject to the same admission requirements; however, group tour leaders are admitted FREE. Organized educational groups may also qualify for a fee waiver under special guidelines - please inquire when making reservations in advance of the group visit.


The park is located approximately 6.5 miles from Boston Logan International Airport. Estimated driving time is 20 minutes.

From I-90/Massachusetts Turnpike: Take the Allston/Cambridge exit towards Cambridge. Cross over bridge and turn left onto Memorial Drive. Follow Memorial Drive past major intersection with John F. Kennedy Street and bear right onto Hawthorn Street. Take next left onto Mt. Auburn Street and next right onto Willard Street. Turn right onto Brattle Street at next intersection. Longfellow NHS will be on immediate left at #105.

From Points North/Rt. 128: Take Route 2 exit towards Boston/Cambridge. Follow Fresh Pond Parkway and turn left onto Mt. Auburn Street. Turn left onto Willard Street and right onto Brattle Street. Longfellow NHS will be on immediate left at #105.

Public Transportation
From Downtown Boston by MBTA/Subway: Take Red Line (Alewife) train outbound. Exit at Harvard Square and follow signs out of station for Church Street. At intersection of Church and Brattle Streets, turn right onto Brattle and walk for 7-10 minutes. Longfellow NHS is on right hand side of Brattle St. at #105.
