Overview

Scusset Beach is located on Cape Cod Bay at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal. It is a popular swimming and camping area that contains the usual amenities. The 98-site camping area is very popular with trailer campers. For salt water anglers, the area offers a popular fish pier, a 3,000 breakwater and 1.5 miles of frontage along the canal. The park fronts the sandy beach and dunes of Scusset Beach along Cape Cod Bay and includes access to a seven-mile, paved service road along the north side of the Cape Cod Canal. A picnic area and bicycling along the canal are also available. The Cape Cod Bike Trail runs right up to the beach so you can bike, swim, and go for a walk along the beach all in the same day. Pets and alcoholic beverages are not prohibited on the beach. The Reservation is also a popular spot for watching the variety of boats and ships passing through the canal.

Activities

  • Bicycling

    Scusset Beach State Park offers various biking trails. A popular biking trail is the Cape Cod Canal Trail that runs right up to the beach. This trail is 7.5 miles maintenance road which has been made bike and pedestrian friendly.

  • Camping

    There are 98 camping sites at Scusset Beach State Reservation. There are accessible showers and restrooms from the camp sites.

    The Main Camping season is Early May to Mid October * Campground office is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in season * RV Dump station is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from early May to mid October * All campsites are Back in only * Please limit the number of personal vehicles you bring to the campground as parking space is very limited.

    Off Season Camping is available Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights Mid October to Early May. * No Dump station, water or restrooms are available. Units must be self contained. * Office is open from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. on camping days. * Self registration information and forms are available on the outside of the camping office. Check maps on bulletin board for available campsites.

    General Information * No RV parking is allowed in the main beach or Jetty parking lots from May 15th to September 15th. * No Pets are allowed on the Beach * Youth Groups should contact the park office ahead of time to schedule visits.

  • Fishing

    Scusset Beach is popular with saltwater fishermen as it offers access to Cape Cod Bay via a 3000 foot breakwater, in addition to fishing along 1.5 miles of Cape Cod Canal frontage.

    Accessible fishing is available from a pier on Cape Cod Canal with nearby parking and paved access.

  • Hiking

    There are various hiking and walking trails that meander through the woods and dunes.

  • Historic Sites

    The park conducts carious interpretative programs that change seasonally. Please call for program details.

  • Hunting

    Hunting is allowed, but has restrictions. Seasons are established yearly by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and a licenses is required. For more information, call 508-389-6300 or check out www.mass.gov/masswildlife.

  • Picnicking

    Picnic areas are located along the canal where one can watch a variety of boats and ships pass by.

Scusset Beach State Reservation is located in southeastern Massachusetts.

From south of Boston: * Route 3 south toward Plymouth/Cape Cod * Take exit 1A for US-6 west toward Buzzards Bay/Falmouth/Scusset Beach Road * Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Scusset Beach Road * Turn left at Scenic Highway * Continue on Meetinghouse Lane * Continue on Scusset Beach Road

From the Cape * US-6 west towards Boston/Providence, Rhode Island * Take the exit toward Canal Street/Route 3A * Slight right at Canal Street/Route 3A * Turn right at Meetinghouse Lane * Continue on Scusset Beach Road

From Wareham: * US-6 east * At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto Main Street * At Bourne Rotary Circle North, take the 1st exit onto US-6 east heading to Hyannis/Provincetown/Route 3/Plymouth * Continue on Meetinghouse Lane * Continue on Scusset Beach Road
