Mark Twain Natinoal Forest ATV Trails

The Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM), shows what roads are ?Open to Highway Legal Vehicles?. You may ride on these Forest Service Roadsin counties where ATVor UTV county permits are issued (see reverse for list) providing you abide by Missouri State motor vehicle regulations. Not all counties encompassing the Mark Twain NF offer permits (see reverse for list). Motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs must meet Missouri State motor vehicle regulations (MSMVR) to be allowed on open Forest Service numbered roads.

Mark Twain NF District/Visitor maps showing numbered Forest Service roads may be purchased at District offices for $9.00.

USGS topographic maps are available for $8.00 each. Actual conditions on the ground may vary from the maps.
Open Forest Service numbered roads will be physically numbered with a post or sign. Roads not shown as open on the MVUM may not be ridden or driven.
With a Forest Service permit*, you may ride on designated motorcycle and ATV trails at Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV Use Area in Christian County, and Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Use Area in Reynolds County. Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Use Area ALSO requires that you have a Reynolds County permit which can be obtained from the Centerville MO Courthouse if you ride the roads. Forest Service permits and brochures are available in Ava, Rolla, and Salem Forest Service offices, and at businesses near trail areas. *Daily permits sell for $7/day; annual permits are $45 in 2009.
Requirements while riding at the Chadwick and Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Use Areas are:

Ride on marked trails only.

Motorized vehicles used on trails must not be over 50 inches in width, and are limited to motorcycles and ATVs

Working muffler and spark arrester required.
?
Operable brakes required.
?
ATVs, by definition, have low pressure tires, handlebars and are straddled.

Utility All-Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) are prohibited from the trails.

Missouri?s only national forest, the Mark Twain, encompasses roughly 1.5 million acres, mostly within the Ozark Highlands. Located across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, the Ozark Highlands are an ancient landscape characterized by large permanent springs, over 5,000 caves, rocky barren glades, old volcanic mountains and nationally recognized streams.
