McNary Lock & Dam, Lake Wallula
Overview
Lake Wallula, and the McNary Lock and Dam are located in northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington along the Columbia River, and together provide for water fun and relaxation. The landscape is characteristic of wide-open vistas with few trees and an arid heat. Popular activities include boating, camping, swimming, water skiing, hunting, and fishing. Recreation facilities range from full service campgrounds and picnic areas to undeveloped and remote beaches. In addition, visitors can view migrating fish and tour the powerhouse and navigation lock. Lodging and restaurants are both located nearby. Up River near the junction of Highways 12 and 730 in Washington is an area known as Wallula Gap where the canyon narrows. Wallula Gap is the site of colorful Indian lore and is a place where interesting natural phenomena occurred during an ancient catastrophic event known as the Great Missoula Floods. Up river near the Tri-Cities, Sacajawea State Park is one of the campsites of Lewis and Clark. Nearby Hat Rock State Park, off Oregon Highway 730, is an area where Lewis and Clark made a special entry in their journals about the prominent rock formation that resembled a hat.

Columbia Park and Hill Park both offer a variety of electrical and non-electric sites for overnight visitors.
Fishing
Fish are supposed to be easily caught in McNary Lock and Dam.
Hiking
Many, many trails are available around the lake.
Picnicking
Many picnic areas and group shelters are located around the lake.
RVing
RVs will enjoy the amenities at nearby state parks.
Water Sports
Swimming and jet skiing are both enjoyed on the lake.

Driving
The lake is located one mile east of Umatilla, Oregon, on Highway 730, and dowm the McNary Dam Road.
