Enjoy picnicking and swimming at one of mid-coast Maine's most popular day use parks located on beautiful Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson. Damariscotta Lake State Park is a short drive from the state's capital, Augusta. A large freshwater lake with a sandy beach provide a relaxing location for beach goers. Of course a trip to a state park wouldn't be complete without a picnic lunch. Picnic tables and grills are available for this popular summertime activity. To reserve the group shelter during the summer months, contact the park staff. Visitors will want to arrive early on warm summer days as parking is limited.

The 17-acres park offers a sand beach swimming area with a lifeguard, a group use shelter and playing field, changing rooms, drinking water, picnic tables and grills, small playground.

Hiking is a popular thing to do around Damariscotta Lake State Park; Hockomock Nature Trail is a wonderful local trail; get yourself into a kayak and hit Sheepscot River - West Branch. Damariscotta Lake State Park is a fine place for a tour when you have to spend some time in the fresh air.

  • Boating

    Canoeing is allowed along with motorize boating; however, there is no public boat launch at Damariscotta Lake State Park. Motorized boating is accessed by a state boat launch halfway down this twelve-mile long lake.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is available in the fresh water lake. Please contact the park for fishing regulations and permits.

  • Picnicking

    Picnic tables and grills are available for this popular summertime activity. The group picnic shelter at this park is equipped with electricity, running water and a group grill. To reserve the group shelter during the summer months, contact the park staff.

  • Water Sports

    Swimming is allowed at the lake. There is a lifeguard on duty.
