Things To Do

Laughing Whitefish Falls is considered by many to be the most spectacular of Michigan's falls. The falls cascade through a picturesque gorge with old growth white pine and hemlock towering above. The falls can be reached by a moderate (2.3 mile) hike through beech-maple forest.

Laughing Whitefish Falls is formed by an abrupt limestone escarpment of the Laughing Whitefish River, which flows northward into Lake Superior. The falls is located within the Escanaba River State Forest. The escarpment is shaped so as to draw out the cascade into an unusual fan-shaped wall of water.

Laughing Whitefish Falls is one of the Upper Peninsula's many impressive waterfalls. The site features a mile of foot trails, picnic area with water pump and three observation decks overlooking the falls.
