Grove of the Patriarchs Nature Trail

This short, 1.1 miles, nature trail leads along the Ohanapecosh River north from Stevens Canyon Road. Interpretive signs line the trail and describe the natural setting of an old growth forest. The trailhead consists of a large parking area, which fills quickly in summer, and restrooms accessible for individuals using wheelchairs.

Begin this walk a quarter mile west of the Stevens Canyon Entrance on Stevens Canyon Road. The trail leads north from the road following the tread of the Eastside Trail for almost one half mile along the Ohanapecosh River. At the first junction you reach turn right and cross the river on a suspension bridge.

The bridge leads hikers to an island within the Ohanapecosh River. The river has created a fire break for the forest growing on the island. The trees have grown to large proportions and are extraordinary for their species. The next fork you reach is the beginning and end of the loop through the grove of patriarchs. This area is developed with interpretive panels describing the plant community of an old growth forest.
