Pinnacle Peak Trail

This trail to the saddle between Pinnacle and Plummer Peaks in the Tatoosh Range, begins at Reflection Lakes on Stevens Canyon Road. The route leads south from the park road beginning at an elevation of 4,860 feet. The first half of the trail leads through forest on a moderately steep grade. Approximately three quarters of a mile from the trailhead the grade steepens and the trail leaves the forest. The tread becomes rocky, snow covered and steep, gaining 1,282 feet in the last half mile to the Pinnacle Peak saddle.

Upon leaving the forest hikers can enjoy the views of Mt. Rainier to the north and Paradise below. On the saddle, 6,562 feet, views abound to the south, including Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood. The trail ends at the saddle with use trails leading along the ridges of Plummer and Pinnacle Peaks. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended for this hike due to the possibility of crossing snow fields and icefields. Technical equipment is not needed to reach the summit of Pinnacle peak, but the route is exposed and extreme caution is necessary.
