Overview

Located on a branch of the Clearwater River, Placid Lake is known for its good trout fishing and smooth water. As the name implies, Placid Lake provides a peaceful escape where visitors can participate in many lake-related recreational activities. Although much of the lake's shoreline is privately owned, the state park provides two public access sites on the lake. A number of facilities are provided for camping, picnicking, horseshoe pit, volleyball court, boating and swimming. Interpretive panels give an account of the early-day logging practices attested to by the massive western larch stumps in the area. The park is 31 acres in size and is 4,134 feet in elevation. There are 40 sites that offer flush and vault toilets, public phone, a group use area, grills/fire rings, firewood, picnic tables, trash cans, and drinking water. This park was donated by Champion Timberlands Corporation in 1977 to commemorate three foresters who were lost in a plane crash near Kalispell, Montana on July 14, 1976.
