Our friends at the DC Chamber of Commerce are busy getting ready for the presidential inauguration of 44th president Barack Obama this month. During this special time in history, you’ll even get a chance to meet and shake hands with George Washington, our country’s first president and the only Founding Father to free his slaves. In conjunction with Madam Tussauds Wax Museum, George’s wax figure will be on display from Wednesday the 14th through the end of the month at the Chamber’s Visitor Information Center.

If you plan to head to DC for the inauguration, be sure to stop by the Visitors Information Center (VIC) and have your picture taken with George, who ironically was the only president who did not live in Washington D.C. The VIC is known as the one-stop-shop for information about all of the DC area, and also offers maps, guides and brochures touching on the wining, dining and sightseeing hotspots in town.

The inauguration, themed Renewing America’s Promise,“ will take place on the 20th of the month and will include the Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony, the Inaugural Address and the Inaugural Parade. With hope on the horizon, it’s also time to party – inaugural balls and galas will be taking place in honor of the new President.

For more information, call the VIC at 202-289-8317 or stop by in person at the lovely Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, just two blocks from the National Mall at 1300, Pennsylvania Ave., N.W.
