Mayo River State Park
Overview
The Mayo River State Park's interim facility, Mayo Mountain Access, opened to the public on April 1, 2010. Located at the site are a park office/visitor contact station, picnic shelter with grills (accommodates up to 100), three individual picnic pads each with table and grill, .5-mile loop hiking trail, 1.8-mile loop hiking trail, rest rooms, catch and release fishing in the pond, and a maintenance facility.
Total acreage for the entire park is presently 1,967 acres.
Park staff is available to provide outreach environmental education programs and will be hosting volunteer workdays. Please check the park event database for opportunities to volunteer.

Camping
Visitors must be 18 years or older to register as campers.
Fishing
A small fishing pond near the picnic shelter offers catch and release fishing. N.C. fishing license required.
Hiking
Hiking trails can be found near the picnic shelter.
Picnicking
The park's massive picnic shelter, historically renovated, was designed by internationally renowned architect Antonin Raymond, a protege of Frank Lloyd Wright. It accommodates up to 100 people and is available by reservation or, on a first-come/first-served basis.
