Situated just southeast of Brownville, this 22-acre area is home to the historic Meriwether Lewis Dredge Museum, operated by the Meriwether Lewis Foundation. The area offers boating access to the mighty Missouri River, with an excellent boat ramp and dock. Activities and facilities include camping, and picnicking.

    The small campground has fourteen hard-surfaced pads for camping enthusiasts.

  • Historic Sites

    The area is home to the historic Meriwether Lewis Dredge Museum, operated by the Meriwether Lewis Foundation. The Meriwether Lewis dredge was made a National Historic Landmark in 1989. The museum houses a variety of exhibits from Native American history to exploration and westward expansion. Visitors can also learn about the role that the vessel played in improving navigation on the Missouri River.

    Picnicking at Brownsville State Recreation Area is a must-do for any visitor. There are picnic tables, grills, and shelters to host family gatherings, birthday parties or any other occasion.

Driving

From Omaha: I-29 south to exit #110. Then you are going west to Brownville on Hwy 136. Cross of the Missouri River Bridge and take the first left turn. Follow this road a short distance and the Brownville Recreation Area is on your left and the campground is just past this entrance and will be the next entrance on the left.

From Kansas City: North on I-29 to exit #110. Repeat the above directions.

Another route from Omaha: Hwy 75 south to Auburn, Hwy 136 east to Brownville. Turn right at junction of Main St. and Hwy 136. Follow this road a short distance and the Brownville Recreation Area is on your left and the campground is just past this entrance and will the next entrance on the left. From Lincoln:

Hwy 2 to Nebraska City, Hwy 75 south to Auburn, Hwy 136 east to Brownville. Turn right at the junction of Main St. and Hwy 136. And repeat the above directions.
