Overview

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park offers year-round accommodations and recreational use. This ultra modern park offers a spectacular array of lodging, group meeting facilities and activities. Located near Ashland, just off of I-80 at exit 426, Mahoney nestles on 690 acres along the picturesque Platte River. The dominant feature of the park, the Peter Kiewit Lodge, offers 40 guest rooms and a restaurant with a great view of the river. Mahoney has a myriad of recreational activities, including a Family Aquatic Center complete with a 0-depth swimming and wave pool and two 200-plus-foot curling water slides. Other activities include miniature golf, driving range, tennis and basketball courts, softball fields, horseback trail rides, crafts, fishing, picnicking, hiking, 70-foot observation tower, nature conservatory, the Denman and Mary Mallory Kountze Theater, hiking and biking trail and beautiful waterway. At Owen Marina, visitors will find the camp store with ice cream, snacks and sandwiches, can rent a paddleboat and check out recreational equipment. Winter activities, depending on conditions, include cross country skiing, sledding and toboggan runs and ice fishing. The activity center provides year-round entertainment with an indoor playground, activity simulators, concession stand and an ice skating rink.

The John R. Lauritzen Administration Building is open Memorial Weekend through Labor Day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. During the rest of the year, it is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Nearby attractions include Platte River State Park the Strategic Air and Space Museum, Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari, Quarry Oaks Golf Club and Iron Horse Golf Club.

  • Boating

    Rent a paddleboat or bring your own boat; there are two docks at the park. Check out Owens Marina for more information and tips.

  • Bicycling

    Seven miles of winding trails provide great opportunities for biking.

  • Camping

    Little Creek and Lakeside campgrounds offer spacious, hardsurfaced pads, situated among mature shade trees near Owen Marina Lake. Modern shower/latrine buildings and drinking water are conveniently located in both areas. There is a coin-operated laundry in the shower building at Little Creek. Trailer dump stations and water are available near the park entrance. All campers must register at the office prior to setting up on a campsite. Reservations are accepted. There are 149 camping pads with electrical hookups (20/30-amp; 1-year advance reservable campsites), 54 cabins that may be reserved and 40 lodge rooms.

  • Climbing

    The activity center provides year-round activities, including the "Rock Climbing simulator."

  • Fishing

    Fishing is available, whether you prefer warm or ice fishing - stop by Owens Marina for some bait and tips as well as a fish cleaning station.

  • Golfing

    Enjoy the driving range to perfect your swing, or play a round of mini-golf.

  • Hiking

    Enjoy hiking the seven miles of trails at the park, and climb up the 70-foot observation tower to see the lake and lands below.

  • Picnicking

    There is a lot of opportunity for picnicking here! Ten shelters have 315 picnic tables and 248 grills. One shelter has an electric hookup.

  • RVing

Owens Marina

Hours: Memorial weekend through Labor Day, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday to Saturday. The marina offers a convenience store and ice cream parlor, fast food service, paddle boats and recreation.

Driving

E. T. Mahoney State Park is located between Omaha & Lincoln on Interstate I-80, Exit 426.

Upon taking exit 426, turn north and go 1/2 mile on Hwy 66, and the entrance is near the Strategic Air & Space Museum.

If traveling from Ashland,from the east or west on Hwy 6 to Ashland, turn onto Hwy 66, go South 3 miles on Hwy 66, and the entrance is near the Strategic Air & Space Museum (before I-80).
