Sandy Channel is a 134-acre area adjacent to the Platte River with 47 acres of ponds. The area contains 30 primitive campsites. Electric motor and non-powered boats can access the river, although there are no ramps or docks available.

Sandy Channel is located near the Elm Creek interchange on I-80. Visitors may also enjoy the Chevyland U.S.A. Auto Museum. Occasionally guests at Sandy Channel may see some of the local scuba divers enjoying the local underwater scenery. Sandy Channel is located within Phelps County approximately 1.5 miles south of the Elm Creek Interchange.

  • Boating

    There is river access in Sandy Channel, although there are no ramps or docks present. Only electric motor and non-powered boats are allowed.

  • Camping

    This area offers primitive camping. There are 30 non-pad sites without electricity. Although there are hand pumps in the park, there are no modern restrooms or showers.

  • Fishing

    Anglers may enjoy fishing in 47 acres of ponds.

  • Water Sports

    Scuba divers take advantage of the 47 acres of pond contained within the area. There are no pools or beaches in the recreation area.



From Exit 257 at Elm Creek, go 2 miles south on Highway 183 and look for the park entrance on the left.
