Overview
Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area is a 3,017 acre lake with 37 acres of land on three accesses, attracting visitors who enjoy power boating, fishing, primitive camping, and swimming. The vast lake is an excellent place for a weekend fishing trip. All types of boats are permitted in the lake. The lake also has a swimming beach. There are plenty of picnic tables and grills for scenic outdoor meals. The recreation area also has its own campsite, so visitors staying overnight don't have to go far to access the 50 non-electrical pad sites and 35 non-designated sites.
Golfers will also enjoy a visit to Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area. The Oregon Trail Golf Course is a nine-hole regulation length golf course a few miles from the lake in Sutherland, Nebraska. The short layout has adequate length for a regulation course. It is 6,279 yards long with a course rating of 69.6 and a slope of 112.
Ice fisherman should take care during the winter - heated water discharged from the power plant can cause thin areas in the ice.

There is a campsite within the area, with 50 camping pads without electricity and 35 non-pad sites without electricity.
