Overview

War Axe State Recreation Area has nine acres of land and a 16-acre lake with a small campground easily accessible from Interstate 80, making it a great spot for a spur of the moment outdoor adventure. The area offers boating, fishing, and picnicking. Both electric motor and non-powered boats can be used on the area's lake. There are six picnic tables, four grills, and three picnic shelters to complete this outdoor escape.

War Axe State Recreation Area is located at the Shelton Interchange, Exit 291 on Interstate 80. The area has eight non-designated campsites with a modern restroom facility. This little piece of outdoor paradise is a great place to take the family for an outdoor excursion without ever wandering too far from modern amenities. House pets (dogs, cats, etc.) are allowed when camping or on other outings on a leash, unless otherwise posted or prohibited by special area regulations. There is plenty of parking.
