Overview

Ahern State Park spans 128 acres, with 3,500 feet of shoreline on Lake Winnisquam. Activities in the park include fishing, biking, and hiking. The park was transferred to the state in November, 1994 as Governor's State Park, and renamed by statute in 1998.

Ahern State Park is unstaffed but is open to the public year-round at no charge. Should an emergency arise during your visit, please call 911 for assistance.. Gates are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Gates are closed during mud season. A pit toilet is available.

Activities

  • Bicycling

    This is a favorite spot for mountain bikers. The trail system is relatively short (10-15 miles). The trails have a wide variety of obstacles like rocks, tree roots, switchbacks, and occasionally muddy areas. Reviews of the biking trails by those who have visited the park are highly positive.

  • Fishing

    Species of fish found here are rainbow and lake trout, salmon, small and large mouth bass, pickerel, horned pout, and white perch.

  • Hiking

    The park spans 128 acres, with 3,500 feet of shoreline on Lake Winnisquam. The mountain biking system (10-15 miles) is available for hiking as well.

  • Picnicking

    The park has a small lakefront area that visitors can enjoy a picnic or they can find a secluded spot in the many acres of the park.

From I-93: Take Exit 20 to Route 3 North, to Route 106 North from downtown Laconia and follow signs to Ahern State Park.

From I-95: Take Exit 6 to Route 4 West to I-93 North. Take Exit 20 to Route 3 North, to Route 106 North from downtown Laconia and follow signs to Ahern State Park.

From I-91: Take Exit 8 to Route 103/11 East, to Route 11 East, to Route 3 North, to Route 106 North from downtown Laconia and follow signs to Ahern State Park.
