Overview

Bull's Island Recreation Area covers 80 acres of land, located on Daniel Bray Highway (Route 29) in Hunterdon County, 7 miles north of Lambertville, New Jersey. It is a perfect place for a family getaway, offering family campsites, a boat launch, fishing, and a nature trail. Several rare plant species are found in this natural area. The surrounding park includes a portion of the D&R Canal Trail, a multi-use trail built on an old railroad bed that runs north of the island and on the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath south of the island. The family campground has flush toilets and hot showers. The park is a part of Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.

The boat launch is located at the Bull's Island Recreation Area for the Delaware River. There are no motor restrictions on the river, but all the New Jersey boating regulations apply. There is parking available to park visitors.

Activities

  • Boating

    The boat launch is located at the Bull's Island Recreation Area for the Delaware River. There are no motor restrictions on the river, but all the New Jersey boating regulations apply.

  • Camping

    There are group wilderness campsites that accommodate 7-25 people, and include access to modern shower and restroom facilities. There are also 44 trailer and tent sites with fire rings, picnic tables, flush toilets, and showers.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is popular in the Delaware River.

Driving

Take I-287 or Route 22 to the intersection with Route 202 in Somerville. Follow Route 202 south for 26 miles to the exit for Route 29 north. Go north for about 6 miles. The entrance is on the left.
