Things To Do

On the sleepy border town of Columbus, New Mexico, soldiers led by Mexican General Francisco "Pancho" Villa attacked the military camp on March 9th 1916, killing 18 Americans. This was the only ground invasion of the continental U.S. since 1812. Aside from the astounding history of the area, more than 30 different cacti are found at Pancho Villa State Park. Interpretive walking trails wind through extensive botanical gardens, which come alive in spring with the vibrant colors of cactus blooms.
