North Cascades National Park
Cottonwood Campground
The Cottonwood camping area lies along the upper Stehekin River 23 miles north of the Golden West Visitor Center. There are four primitive campsites at this location that provide good opportunities for fishing in the Stehekin River and hiking in the backcountry of the park. Visitors can access this site via foot along Stehekin River Road. The camping area lies at the official end of the road, but a portion near Glory Mountain (nearly three miles south of Cottonwood Camp) was washed out in 1995.
No reservations are necessary for these sites, but a backcountry permit is required. The permit may be obtained at the Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin. The facilities consist of fire pits and picnic tables. Any water obtained on site must be filtered, boiled or treated before drinking.
