Taconic Outdoor Education Center
Overview
Open year-round, the Taconic Outdoor Education Center provides environmental education, outdoor recreation, Project Adventure, maple sugaring, retreats, and public programs for Hudson Valley schools, scout troops and clubs. Highland Lodge, with a wood-burning stone fireplace, colorful nature displays, comfortable woodland cabins, friendly service, excellent meals and knowledgeable educators is a perfect fit for these activities. Some visitors stay overnight, while others visit for a day. Center staff also visit schools and provide lessons in classrooms.
After the first snowfall, a full-service cross country ski and snowshoe programs swing into operation at Fahnestock Winter Park. At the Center in late winter, the Hudson Valley Maple Farm starts producing syrup from the Sugar Maple grove. Through the year, public programs celebrate the seasons. These include Winterfest in February, Sap to Syrup in March, and Mt. Laurel Outdoor Recfest in May.
Campers are welcome to enjoy the hospitality of Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Tent and trailer sites, as well as cabins and group camping are permitted in the grounds. Camping season runs from mid-April until mid-December.
Operating year round, the Taconic Outdoor Education Center is located an hour and half north of New York City by car or Metro North to nearby Cold Spring. No pets please.

Winter Sports
After the first snowfall, full-service cross country ski and snowshoe programs swing into operation at Fahnestock Winter Park. During the January Winterfest snowshoeing, boot-skating, and tube sledding are all popular activities. Ski rentals, tube rentals, snowshoes rentals, baby sled rentals and ski lessons are all available at the Center. In late winter, the Hudson Valley Maple Farm starts producing syrup from the Sugar Maple grove.

Friends of Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks
Founded in 2007, Friends of Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving Fahnestock and Hudson Highlands State Parks. They support the stewardship of the landscape's natural and historic resources, as well as educational and recreational opportunities for the public. This is done in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the community through advocacy, education, volunteerism and fundraising.

Driving
Located in Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park off (Putnam County) Route 301 in the Town of Putnam Valley, 7 miles east of Cold Spring, New York.
From Taconic Parkway West on Route 301, about 2.5 miles, left on Dennytown Road a 1/4 mile Right onto Indian Brook Road for 1/4 mile. Left at Mountain Laurel Lane.
From Route 9 take 301 East and go about 2 miles, turn right onto Dennytown Road and follow directions above.
