Overview

Beaver Dunes State Park is a 520-acre park in the panhandle region, which primarily offers dune buggy riding on the park's 300 acres of sand hills. The vast waves of sand draw visitors from all around the region to explore and play in them. Another area of the park is Big Sandy picnic area. In addition, the park offers fishing and hiking opportunities as well as a a sand volleyball court, basketball hoop, horseshoe pits, playground, nature trail, and two reservable picnic shelters.

Inside the park, Hackberry Bend Campground is located next to Beaver Lake (which covers approximately two acres and is stocked with largemouth bass, channel cat, and perch) and has seven water and electric sites and 10 tent sites. Also located in Hackberry Bend is a one-room primitive cabin which sleeps up to four, that can be reserved. The park's Pioneer Campground is conveniently located adjacent to the ORV area.

Activities

  • Camping

    Inside the park, Hackberry Bend Campground is located next to Beaver Lake (approximately 2 acres, stocked with largemouth bass, channel cat, and perch) and has 7 water and electric sites and 10 tent sites. Also located in Hackberry Bend is a one room primitive cabin which sleeps 4 that can be reserved. Pioneer Campground is located adjacent to the ORV area. This campground has 13 water and electric sites with direct access to the dunes. Both campgrounds have a comfort station with hot showers. A dump station is located at Hackberry Bend Campground. Both campgrounds have accessible sites.

  • Hiking

    A nature trail through the dunes leaves near the Big Sandy picnic area.

  • Off Highway Vehicles

    Off-road vehicles have a great time riding on the sand dunes in this park. Call office for permit restrictions and more information.

  • Picnicking

    Two picnic shelters are conveniently located near the dunes. Nearby horseshoe and volleyball areas can also be enjoyed while eating a delicious outdoor meal.

  • RVing

    Hackberry Bend Campground has 7 water and electric sites, and Pioneer Campground has 13 water and electric sites. A dump station is located at Hackberry Bend Campground.

Seasonality/Weather

During the winter, the lake and ORV campgrounds remain open for RV camping and the bathrooms are available, but the day-use area bathrooms are closed.
