Cherokee State Park is located in northeastern Oklahoma on the shore of Grand Lake O' The Cherokees, one of Oklahoma's largest lakes with over 59,000 surface acres and 1,300 miles of shoreline. The park consists of several smaller parks that are located near the Pensacola Dam and around the lake. The area is known for great fishing and a variety of water sports. Amenities include picnic sites, a group shelter, campsites, playgrounds, comfort stations, lighted boat ramp and a 9-hole golf course.

The lakeside area features a beach for swimming, 12 RV sites, 15 tent sites, a playground, group shelter and comfort station. The Grand View area features four RV sites with electric service only, 45 tent sites, a group shelter and comfort station. The Riverside area, located below the Pensacola Dam, features 18 RV sites, 50 tent sites, a group shelter, boat ramp with access to the river and a comfort station. The Grand Cherokee area, also located below the Pensacola Dam, features 15 RV sites with full hookups and pull-through services.

  • Boating

    Several boat ramps in the park provide access to the Grand Lake O' The Cherokees year-round.

  • Camping

    Cherokee State Park offers four campgrounds with both RV sites and tent sites, all of which are conveniently located near the lake.

  • Fishing

    Fishermen will delight in the lake access provided at Cherokee State Park. Fish species found in Grand Lake include largemouth bass, white bass, channel catfish, crappie and bluegill.

  • Golfing

    The Grand Cherokee golf course in Cherokee State Park is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Pensacola Dam with tree-lined fairways, bent grass greens, well-placed bunkers, minimum water hazards and a spectacular view of the Pensacola Dam.

  • Picnicking

    Several picnic areas and shelters offer quiet natural settings to enjoy an outdoor meal.

  • RVing

    Many RV sites with full hookups are located throughout Cherokee State Park.

  • Water Sports

    All water sports are allowed on Grand Lake.


Park office hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winter season office hours: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A park ranger is on duty during weekends. During the winter, Grand Cherokee area campground and facilities remain open to RV camping. The Riverside area and Lakeside campgrounds remain open for day use and boat ramp use only during the winter; the bathrooms are closed. The Grandview campground is closed during the winter.



From intersection of Highways 82/28, go south approximately one mile to Highway 28. Turn east, go approximately 1/2 mile, turn south on Highway 82A. Take first left to stop sign. Turn east onto river road. Follow road until you cross over the river. Your next right will be the Grand Cherokee Golf course where the park office is located.
