Talimena State Park marks the Oklahoma entrance to the Talimena National Scenic Drive, 54 miles of winding road through the Ouachita Mountains, which are known for their spectacular spring and fall foliage. Hiking and backpacking trails in Talimena State Park offer the opportunity to explore a wide range of scenic, wooded terrain. Dirt bikes and ATVs are permitted in the park, and are a great way to experience the area. Talimena State Park offers facilities for picnics and camping, including tables, a group shelter, full RV hookups with electric and water hookups, tent campsites, a playground, hiking trails and comfort station with showers.

Talimena State Park is an excellent base camp for visitors to join the thousands of people who visit the Talimena National Scenic Byway during the fall season and view amazing fall foliage stretching as far as the eye can see. Awash in vibrant shades of red and gold, the forested slopes that surround the Talimena Drive have made this scenic byway an autumn hot spot and the crown jewel of the region. Numerous viewpoints and scenic turnoffs along the Talimena National Scenic Byway provide visitors with spectacular views of the fall color change. Stop at one of the 22 designated vistas along the route and take full advantage of the route's interpretive signage as you take in the beauty of the area's endless fall foliage.

Fall foliage is a major draw to the park, so it can get crowded during this season. The park is open year-round for a variety of recreational opportunities, though only one comfort station remains open in the camping areas during the winter.



Talimena State Park is located 20 miles south of Wister and six miles north of Talihina on Highway 271.
