Olympic National Park Quarter release set for June 14

On June 14, there will be a “quarter launch” event at the Port Angeles City Pier on at 11 a.m. to celebrate the release of the Olympic National Park quarter. The U.S. Mint and will launch the third new quarter of 2011. Speakers will include Park Superintendent Karen Gustin and Mint Associate Director B.B. Craig. 

Following the ceremony, there will be a coin exchange where the public can swap their cash for rolls of the new Olympic National Park quarter. Children 18 years old and younger will receive a free Olympic National Park quarter to commemorate the event.

The Olympic National Park quarter depicts the majestic Mount Olympus and surrounding forests. In the center stands a Roosevelt elk, standing on a gravel river bar of the Hoh River. Olympic National Parks encompasses some of the most amazing sections of the Olympic range, with serene coastline and snow-capped mountains.

The America the Beautiful Quarters™ Program is a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites. Each year, the public will see five new national sites depicted on the reverse (tails side) of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.
