Planning Your Visit
The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail can be visited in any season. It includes sections of walkable pathway, a Commemorative Motor Route, affiliated historic sites and museums, and wayside exhibits. Along the way it passes through four NPS areas, two National Forests, an Army Corps of Engineers Dam & Reservoir, plus several state and county parks. The numerous communities along its four state area encompass stories and history from a variety of eras, allowing visitors to utilize the trail as a pathway to discover the cultural and natural heritage of a unique region of the United States.
Operating Hours & Seasons
The Commemorative Motor Route is accessible at all hours, year-round, weather conditions permitting.
The non-motorized pathway is available for use from dawn to dusk, year-round, weather conditions permitting.
Affiliated areas (i.e. parks, historic sites, etc.) generally are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but are closed on major holidays.
Fees & Reservations
There are no entrance or use fees to access any portion of the Overmountain Victory NHT or affiliated sites.
Some campgrounds within state or federal lands that the route traverses, or that are nearby, may charge a user fee.
