As the home of the state record Muskie (55 lb 2 oz), Peidmont Lake is a great location for fishing in Ohio! The Piedmont Lake also offers recreational activities such as hunting, camping, and biking! It is located near the southern border of Harrison County, Ohio, on Stillwater Creek, a tributary of the Tuscarawas River, and runs into the Muskingum River.
The Piedmont Lake pool covers 2312 acres over portions of Harrison, Belmont, and Guernsey Counties. The lake has a maximum depth of 38 feet and 38 miles of shoreline. The Dam was constructed in 1937 as part of a system of dams designed to provide flood control in the Muskingum Watershed. The dam is a rolled-earth and rock-filled embankment with an impervious core. The dam has a maximum height of 56 feet, a crest elevation of 937.60 feet above m.s.l., a crest length of 1750 feet and a crest width of 25 feet.
The maximum boat HP limit at Piedmont Lake is 10 HP, and there are two public launch ramps located on the lake, for more information contact the Piedmont Marina @ 740-658-3735.
Bicycles are permitted on the state highways and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District park.
Primitive camping, camping sites with electric availability, camping sites with full electric and water hookups, camper cabins, patio cabins and family vacation cabins are available.
Hunting and fishing are excellent at Piedmont Lake. The state record Muskie (55 lb 2 oz) was taken from Piedmont Lake, and many catfish weighing 50 to 70 lbs have also been taken.
The Egypt Valley Wildlife Area, with approximately 16,000 acres, provides excellent hunting. Hunting is regulated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, which issues a publication about Ohio Hunting and Trapping Regulations. In the interest of safety, hunting on Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District land is prohibited in or near restricted use areas as well as near residential areas, buildings, public roads and highways around the lake. The majority of Piedmont Lake is in Belmont County, Ohio, near the town of Piedmont, Ohio. Access to the project is one of two ways: On I-77, take exit 47 at Cambridge, Ohio, and go east on Rt. 22 for 23 miles; or off I-70, take exit 202, go north on State Rt. 800 to State Rt. 22, and go east on Rt. 22 for about 3 miles to the project.
