With over 3,000 lakes and ponds there are plenty of places to go kayaking and canoeing in the Adirondacks. Visit http://visitadirondacks.com/What-to-Do/Recreation/Canoeing-Kayaking.html for more information. Enjoy your trip!

Check out the Saranac Lake Islands Campgrounds (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24496.html) managed by by New York State. Some great images of the islands are available here: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/13353802.

There are a bunch of great primitive campsites out on the islands, and many have an outhouse, fire grill and picnic table. There's plenty to explore on the lakes, and also lots to do in the nearby towns of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.

If you need a canoe or kayak, head to local outfitters like Adirondacks Lakes and Trails (http://www.adirondackoutfitters.com/).
