Barry Wan...
I understand the rangers at Acadia offer great kayak trips. Are reservations needed? What's the schedule? Thanks.

Hi Barry,

Kayaking is one of the best ways to experience Acadia National Park!

Tours are lead by private companies. Mount Desert Island is a great location for ocean kayaking, and the park's lakes and ponds also offer a different type of kayaking experience. For more information on kayak tours and rentals, contact local chambers of commerce by clicking here: http://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/chambersofcommerce.htm

Public boat ramps are available in Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. If you're going to head out on your own, please be careful! Kayaking in the ocean is only for experienced paddlers. Maine's coastal waters are known to have rough tides, fog and cold water temperatures.

Have fun kayaking in Acadia! Be sure to check back in with us to post photos and comments after your trip.
