If you'll be traveling near Mt Baker, you'll probably be heading up the Mt Baker highway (Washington State Route 542). That's a really beautiful road, and heads straight up the mountain. It takes about 1 hour 15 minutes or so from Bellingham to the top. Once at the top, you'll be in the area known as as Artists Point. On a sunny day (winter or summer), the views are unbelievable, although because of the amount of winter snow - typically the most snow measured anywhere in the US per year - the road to the very top typically opens in mid to late July. Once at the top though, there are a number of shorter trails that lead from the parking area that lead along ridge tops, along creeks, and to high alpine lakes. It's a wonderful area!
The artists point area is in the Mt Baker / Snoqualmie National Forest. For more info, you might check out the Washington State Tourism website, here : http://www.experiencewa.com/attraction.aspx?id=41
