Thank you for your question! Depending on the number of cars in the park at the time, it can take up to 45 minutes to almost a couple of hours. I would recommend the route described at this link: https://www.yellowstonepark.com/road-trips/grand-loop-west-thumb-lake-scenic-drive
Wishing you a great park visit,

Travelling from the east gate, towards Cody, WY to the west gate in West Yellowstone, MT will take at least 2 hours, and that's assuming light traffic and no big bison traffic jams.

From the NE gate near Cooke City, MT, to west gate is probably going to take about 3 hours, with ideal conditions like mentioned before.

Even if you're down around Fishing Bridge or Lake Lodge area, I recommend going back up to Canyon Area and across to Norris JCT and then down to Madison campground area and west out toward West Yellowstone. Might be a bit longer actual mileage, but you'll skip all the traffic near the Lake Marina and campgrounds and more importantly out by Old Faithful and the geyser areas near there.

Either way though, just the enjoy the view and watch the speeed limits, animals and fellow tourists can pop up in the road seemingly at the blink of an eye, and the rangers are fairly zero tolerance on speeding if they catch you.
