Overview

Rose Lake NWR was established in 1935 and 1936 by easement acquisition on 1,280 acres. Most of the area surrounding the lake itself was only covered by 10 year easements that expired in 1945. This left only 872.1 acres which include the lake itself under control by FWS. The area was designated as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1948.
