Castle Rock Trail

Castle Rock Trail is the most popular trail in Bear Valley with an elevation gain of 500 feet. At the top of the ridge is an impressive granite rock outcropping and the source of many tales and local folklore. If you trust your rock climbing skills and can claw your way on top of the rocks, the views of the Big Bear Lake are wonderful. The best part of this hike is that it is downhill all the way home.

Directions from Fawnskin/Big Bear Lake, CA: Travel west on Highway 18 to the dam before you turn right (east) onto Hwy. 38. Travel 1.1 miles east past the dam. There is limited parking on the south side of highway 50 yards east of trailhead.
