Things To Do

Approximately 500,000 acres of public land in the San Simon Valley provide unlimited recreational opportunities. In addition, the Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area is located in the heart of the San Simon Valley. This Special Recreation Management Area provides unique opportunities for off-highway vehicle riding and hot-water bathing. Wildlife species in the area include quail, dove, deer, and javelina.

The San Simon Valley southeast of Safford has several springs and seeps capable of providing habitat for native fish. An important step in the restoration of the endangered desert pupfish was taken when nearly 250 fish were placed in a pond southeast of Safford by AGFD and partners.
