Sand Island
Overview
Sand Island, which is not an island at all, features a large petroglyph panel on the sandstone cliffs along the San Juan River. There are five Kokopelli's among the figures on this panel. The panel displays glyphs from 800 to 2500 years old. This location is also a popular launch site for float trips on the San Juan River. A ranger station, boat launch, picnic area, toilets, drinking water, and a campground are all available.
