Givhans Ferry State Park
Overview
The 988-acre Givhans Ferry State Park is popular among guests as a prime location to meander down the scenic Edisto River, which is the longest free-flowing blackwater stream in the North American continent. If you prefer to stay on land, the Givhans Ferry State Park offers mountain bikers the chance to enjoy the outdoors with a well-known mountain bike trail. For guests who simply wish to relax in a natural environment, the Park offers well-kept, forested campgrounds and well-maintained, rustic cabins. These areas offer guests the chance to espape the hustle-and-bustle and to enjoy the rural Lowcountry woods, which are short drive from historic Charleston. The park is was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps and makes up a part of the 56-mile long Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail. A natural retreat, Givhans Ferry State Park is the place for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts to retreat for a while.
Activities
Boating
Access on the Edisto River is available at a drop off area. A boat ramp is located three miles from the park.
Bicycling
On the dry side, Givhans Ferry boasts a well-regarded mountain bike trail, shady campgrounds and well-kept, rustic cabins that offer a peaceful stay in the rural Lowcountry woods and an easy drive to historic Charleston.
Camping
Tent and RV camping available. Camping reservations must be made for at least 2 nights. You must make a reservation request directly through the park if you request less than 3 days before check-in.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in the Edisto River for flathead, catfish, red breast, channel catfish, largemouth bass, striped bass, shellcrackers, blue catfish and eels. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.
Hiking
The River Bluff Nature Trail is a moderate 1½ miles.
Picnicking
Two picnic shelters are available for family or other group gatherings. Each shelter may be reserved. If shelters arenot reserved, guests may use on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge.

Office Hours run from 11:00 a.m. to noon & 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Days and Hours of Operation: Apr. - Sept. 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mid Sept.- Oct., Mon-Thurs 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Fri-Sun 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Nov. - Mar 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Directions
Driving
From I-95: Canadys exit. Turn left and drive 17 mi. Cross the Edisto River and take the first left onto Givhans Ferry Rd.
From I-26: Take exit 187 onto Hwy 27 towards Ridgeville and go 1 mile to Hwy 78. Take a left and go approximately ¼ of a mile and take a right on Hwy 27. Stay on Hwy 27 for 7 miles to Hwy 61. Take a right on Hwy 61 for 3 miles to Givhans Ferry Road. Turn rt and park entrance is ¼ mile on the left.
