Huntington Beach State Park
Overview
Huntington Beach State Park is popular for being the host of the annual Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival, where thousands of art lovers flock each September to take advantage of artisan work ranging from pottery to glass art. This State Park lies on a sweeping Grand Strand beach which is almost untouched and wide open. Guests can enjoy sea-breeze camping and fishing from a jetty or in the water. This Park also has some of the best bird-watching on the East Coast. That is not that this Park has to offer! The park also has 2,500-square-foot Education Center that boasts a saltwater touch tank and a live baby alligator among its exhibits. The center offers many educational opportunities and programming. Also, Atalaya, the picturesque, Moorish-style winter home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, who were famous for being a sculptress and philanthropist, respectively, left the park and the next-door Brookgreen Gardens for the public to enjoy. Nature lovers have the chance to see alligators and sometimes even a mink or two in the park's freshwater lake.
