Overview

The 914-acre Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area is a haven for fishermen of all skill levels. First, stop by the lakefront park's information center to view displays of a large variety of vintage fishing equipment. You cannot miss the 56,000-acre Lake Hartwell because it keeps its reputation for top-notch angling! Species include striped and hybrid bass, largemouth, crappie, bream and catfish. In addition to accessing the lake, the younger ones can also enjoy a playground, but that's not all! There is also a park store for guests to purchase any missing or additional items. Nature lovers can enjoy hiking, camping and unique, reasonably priced one-room camper cabins. These cabins include bunk beds, a porch and electricity (no running water or bathrooms). Campground facilities are located nearby. Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area is found just off Interstate 85 at the South Carolina-Georgia border. The area also is a gateway to South Carolina's mountain country on the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway, S.C. 11.
