Overview
The Lake Wateree State Recreation Area is a fishing and boating haven that attracts visitors from far and wide and that is found on Desportes Island. Lake Wateree is famous for hosting several fishing tournaments throughout the year. Fishermen of all skill levels can take advantage of a conveniently located tackle shop/ park store with refueling dock and public boat ramp. Here, fishermen can catch countless of species including crappie, bream, largemouth bass, catfish and striped bass. Lake Wateree park also has 72 camp sites, and group camping is available. Reservations can be made by contacting the park directly. Many sites are suitable for large RVs and all come with water and electrical service. These sites are highly coveted in the summer, so make your reservation today! There is something for everyone here, even playground equipment for the kids. Groups of all sizes can enjoy use of the many picnic tables. For those who want to get out and walk, there is also a mile-long nature trail that winds through the calm forest!
Activities
Boating
Two boat ramps provide private boat access to Lake Wateree.
Camping
Each site is paved and has individual water and electrical hookups, and picnic table.
The campground is convenient to restroom facilities with hot showers.
Fifty sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, others up to 35 feet.
Five sites are pull-through, while fifteen are waterfront.
Fishing
Fishing for bream, catfish, crappie and bass may be enjoyed in Lake Wateree.
A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.
Hiking
The Desportes Island Trail is a moderate .7-mile loop.
Picnicking
Visitors at Lake Wateree can enjoy the picnic tables, playground and the mile-long nature trail that runs through the peaceful woods.

Directions
Driving
From I-77: Take exit 41, follow secondary 41 N. to stop sign at Hwy 21. Turn left and go approximately 2-3 mi. to the first paved road on the rt. Turn rt. on Rd. 101 (River Rd.) The park is 5.5 mi. on the left.
