Things To Do

On the banks of Lake Kampeska, Sandy Shore Recreation Area offers just that: a long, sandy beach. The beach is a great place to enjoy Lake Kampeska, which is a glacial lake named for its clear water. Early homesteaders settled along the shores of the lake. Sandy Shore is the smallest park in the South Dakota State Park system. It boasts a large beach area for day use activities. Beachfront camping is a top attraction, as are the waters of Lake Kampeska. A comfort station is available to use between the campground and the beach area.

There is a small campground and one picnic shelter. Many visitors like to have picnics on the shores of the lake. There is a boat ramp that provides access to the lake. There is a swimming beach but no lifeguard.
