Overview

West Bend Recreation Area is located on Lake Sharpe on the Missouri River. The relatively stable lake level and the cool water temperatures support excellent walleye and small mouth bass fishing. Most fishing is done from boats, and the protected marina offers convenient boat launching, regardless of the wind direction. In the autumn, hunters use this as a base camp to hunt pheasants and Canada geese. West Bend is one of the South Dakota state parks along the Lewis and Clark Trail. There is a large campground, as well as four camping cabins with waterfront views. There is a beach for water skiers. There are also two accessible picnic shelters.
