Campgrounds at Sequoia
Lodgepole Campground
The Lodgepole Campground has 214 sites, is located 0.5-mile east of Lodgepole Visitor Center, at an elevation of 6,700 feet and costs $20 per night in the summer and $10 once snowfall blankets facilities. Amenities include flush toilets, bearproof storage boxes, pay phone, laundromat, camper store, deli and a gift center. Showers and sanitary disposal stations are available. Only the parking area is plowed in winter.
Dorst Campground
This campground features 204 sites, is located 7.5 miles northwest of Lodgepole Visitor Center, at an elevation of 6,800 feet and costs $20 per night with reservation. It is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Amenities include flush -toilets, bearproof storage boxes, a phone and a sanitary disposal station. -
Foothills Area
Buckeye Flat Campground
This campground boasts 28 sites, is located six miles northeast from the Ash Mountain entrance, at an elevation of 2,800 feet and costs $18 per night. Trailers and RVs are not allowed. The campground is open during the summer only and amenities include flush toilets and bearproof storage boxes. -
Potwisha Campground
The Potwisha Campground has 42 sites, is located three miles northeast from the Ash Mountain entrance, at an elevation of 2,100 feet and costs $18 per night year-round. Amenities include flush toilets, bearproof storage boxes, a phone and a sanitary disposal station. -
South Fork Campground
This campground features 10 sites, is located 13 miles from Highway 198 near Lake Kaweah south of Three Rivers on South Fork Drive, at an elevation of 3,600 feet and costs $12 per night mid-May through October (no fee rest of year). Trailers and RVs are not allowed. Amenities include pit toilets and bearproof storage boxes, but there is no drinking water.
Mineral King Area
Both Mineral King campgrounds charge $12 per night from late May through Sept.; then water is turned off and no fees are charged. The area is closed to trailers and RVs. The road is closed November 1 to Memorial Day weekend. Pit toilets, bearproof storage boxes, public phones and horses in summer are available. Silver City Resort, a small private facility, has cabins, pay showers and a restaurant.
Atwell Mill Campground
Atwell Mill features 21 sites, is located 20 miles from Highway 198 at an elevation of 6,650 feet. -
Cold Springs Campground
This campground has 40 sites and is located 24 miles from Highway 198 with an elevation of 7,500 feet.

The Nisqually Road in Mount Rainier National Park will reopen today, a day earlier than expected. The road, and the park, have been closed since Nov. 12 when Kautz Creek jumped its banks and flooded the main road into the park.

An upcoming National Park Service (NPS) rule change could greatly benefit mountain bicycling by improving the administrative process for opening trails to bicycles. IMBA has been asking the agency to revise its policies since 1992, because the current "special regulations" process is needlessly cumbersome and treats bicycles like motorized vehicles.
