Grant Grove General Forest Area

Grant Grove lies in the western portion of Kings Canyon National Park. It is the site of the original National Park designated to protect two sequoia groves. This park, General Grant National Park, protected a pristine grove and one that had been logged. Logging occurred in this area of the park, and others, in the 1880s. In 1890 the site was protected by federal law from logging. The site is now encompassed within Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks.

Grant Grove contains a concentration of attractions, lodging facilities, dining and picnicking sites and information centers. The area contains three campgrounds, a restaurant, market and gift shop. A wilderness office is open to provide backcountry information and permits. Trails in the area lead through a conifer forest dotted with sequoias. Short nature trails lead to the National Christmas Tree, a lumbermans cabin and mill sites.
