Mineral King General Forest Area

Mineral King General Forest Area includes the a variety of facilities within spectacular mountainous scenery. The area consists of several trails of varying length that lead along the East Fork Kaweah River and into the surrounding mountains. Other facilities along the winding, rugged Mineral King Road include two campgrounds, a ranger station, picnic area, pack station and several trailheads, parking areas and scenic pullouts.

The area was first developed for mining purposes, but few riches were excavated from the rough granite-laden terrain. Many of the place names within this general forest area were derived from the miners who lived in the region. Evidence of mining activity can be found along trails and in backcountry vistas.
