Bear Den Mountain Trail

Bear Den Mountain is a 1.2-mile round-trip hike which takes the visitor to great views of the mountains. From this trail, you will be able to view both the eastern and western ranges. Black bear particularly like this area due to the abundance of blueberry bushes.

Directions from Front Royal, VA: Skyline Drive travels the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. Mile markers are placed along the right-hand side of the road heading south. They are numbered from north to south beginning at the northern terminus in Front Royal, Virginia. Facilities, trails and park features use the mile markers as points of reference. At mile 99.5, park in the Beagle Gap parking area located on the east side of the Drive. Begin on the Appalachian Trail until you see the trail post for Calf Mountain.
