Shenandoah National Park

Bearfence Trail

Bearfence Trail can be either a 1.2-mile loop by way of the Appalachian Trail or you may retrace your steps making the hike 0.8-mile. Either way, this hike is for the experienced hiker. The park service recommends small children and those fearful of heights avoid this hike. Good traction hiking boots are recommended. The trail is very rocky and rattlesnakes are not uncommon. However, for those that take the challenge, the view is absolutely spectacular. You'll see the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive, Massanutten Mountain, Fork Mountain and Hazeltop, to name a few.
