Fort Winham Rocks Trail is only 0.8-mile round trip but offers the visitor an interesting look at various rock formations.

Directions from Front Royal, VA: Skyline Drive travels the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. Mile markers are placed along the right-hand side of the road heading south. They are numbered from north to south beginning at the northern terminus in Front Royal, Virginia. Facilities, trails and park features use the mile markers as points of reference. Park in Compton Gap parking area which is on the east side of the Drive just beyond mile post 10. Begin on the white-blazed Appalachian Trail located at the rear of the parking lot. Take the Appalachian Trail just a short distance to the trail post.
